Men’s Soccer Narrowly Defeated by Dean, 1-0

FRANKLIN, Mass. – On a rainy Saturday night at the Longley Complex, the host Dean Bulldogs emerged victorious after a 90-minute Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) battle with Rivier men's soccer. Dean improved to 5-2-1 (3-2-1 GNAC) with the victory, while the Raiders dropped to 1-4-3 (1-3-2 GNAC).

After both goalies turned aside two shots apiece in the first half, it would be the home side who would break the deadlock first, with Shavar Champagnie putting a shot past Dominic Cunha on an unassisted try to put the Bulldogs in front.

With 82:11 elapsed, Champagnie would go for goal again and would be denied by the goalpost. Under a minute later, Hayden Bilodeau of Rivier was able to get a shot on target, but Alberto Gonzalez Del Rio made the save to keep the Bulldogs in the lead and secure their third-straight victory of the campaign.

Rivier was outshot, 14-8, in the setback, as Cunha made five saves in between the pipes for the Raiders. Dean also compiled 13 corner kick opportunities to Rivier's five.

The Raiders will look to get back in the win column when they face a familiar GNAC foe in Colby-Sawyer in a mid-week matchup at Merrill Field, with a Wednesday, Sept. 27 evening kickoff set for 5:00 p.m.
