JWU-Providence Downs Men’s Soccer in GNAC Opener

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rivier men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 defeat to JWU-Providence in its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opening match on Tuesday night at the Scots Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.

Aidan Bagley broke the scoring open, redirecting a cross from Conner Elliot to give the Wildcats (1-1-1) a 1-0 lead 22:26 into the first half.

Just under a minute into the second stanza, Bagley would head in another feed, this time from Jonathan Baker, to make it 2-0. The hosts would go on to strike three more times in the second half to take a 5-0 advantage and secure their first win of the campaign.

JWU-Providence outshot the Raiders (0-2-0) by a total of 21-3. Dominic Cunha made five saves in the setback for Rivier.

The Raiders will look to even their conference record in their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 9 as they play host to Mitchell at 3:00 p.m. at Merrill Field.
