Men’s Soccer Falls to Keene St. in Season Opener

KEENE, N.H.  The Rivier men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to the Owls of Keene St. on the road Saturday afternoon at Butcher Field.

The first half of play was back and forth, with both squads trying to keep possession. Concluding the first scoreless 45 minutes, the Raiders were able to hold Keene St. to only one shot on goal.

It wasn't until nearly eight minutes into the second half when the Owls broke open the scoring, recording back-to-back goals in a 1:05 stretch. Mbambi Mbungu tapped in the first goal of the game at 53:35, with an assist credited to Rahul Drukpa. Not long after, Drukpa netted his goal with an assist from Ali Alzawar, quickly putting Keene St. up 2-0.

With just over 16 minutes left in the contest, Keene St.'s Mbungu was back in action finding Cedrick Ishoboravyose who launched in their final goal of the game.

Riv was able to get one shot off at goal in the second half, but the Owl's goalkeeper, Regan Racicot, made the save.

The Raiders will commence Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when they take on the Wildcats of JWU-Providence at 7:00 p.m. from the Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
