Men’s Lacrosse Wins Stunner Against Monks in Double OT

STANDISH, ME: Rivier men's lacrosse took down the Monks of Saint Joseph's this evening in a double overtime thriller to help improve the Raiders to 7-2 in GNAC play.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/20/23

- Score: Rivier 11, SJC 10

- Records: Rivier (12-3, 7-2 GNAC), SJC (4-12, 2-7 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) got the scoring started in the first quarter for the Raiders, the Monks would go on a four-goal run to go up 4-1. Calvin Heline would net two for SJC during that run. Nicholas Tavares (Danvers, MA) would end the St. Joe's unanswered scores with his first of the game. Timothy Goodfellow would net the fifth goal for the Monks along with his second of the contest. The first quarter would end with two goals from the Raiders, Tavares and Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH).  

- Rivier would take the lead in the second quarter with three goals. Michael Ference (Salem, NH) would score his first and second goals of the game to tie and give Riv a 6-5 lead. Tavares would score his third goal of the game to push their lead to two going into the break.

- The Monks would start the second half with four straight goals. Max Lacy would put in three, with Goodfellow netting another. Ference would net his third of the game, putting the Raiders down just one going into the fourth quarter.

- Heitmiller would put his second and third goals of the game in the net to take the lead back at 10-9. There was just 28 seconds left when the Monks Zavier Balzano would tie the game up and send it into overtime.

- After a scoreless first OT, Coby Mercier (Boscawen, NH) would net the game winner for the Raiders.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Tavares, Ference, and Heitmiller all had three goals in the contest. Ference would add two assists to his stat line.

-  Lacy and Goodfellow would also net three goals for the Monks, with Goodfellow also adding three assists.

Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) picked up his 11th win of the season after making 16 saves.
