Men’s Lacrosse Takes Down AMCATS

PAXTON, MA: The Rivier men's lacrosse team defeated the AMCATS of Anna Maria College this evening in conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/6/22

- Score: Rivier 13, Anna Maria 7

- Records: Rivier (8-2, 3-1 GNAC), Anna Maria (4-6, 2-2 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The AMCATS got the scoring going in the first quarter on two quick Ethan Quinn goals. The Raiders would respond with a 4-0 run to end the quarter up 4-2. Jeffery Potter (N. Bennington, VT) would get the run started, followed by a Michael Ference (Salem, NH) goal and two more from Nicholas Tavares (Danvers, MA).

- Ference would open up the second quarter with his second goal of the contest before Anna Maria would finally respond and end the 5-0 run. Hank Gittines and Tommy Girard would be responsible for the two AMCAT goals in the second. The Raiders would end the half on yet another 4-0 run getting the score to 9-4 at the break. Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) started the run with his first of the game right before finishing on his second on a man-up opportunity. Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) and Coby Mercier (Boscawen, NH) would cap off the half with the final two scores.

- Eric Glover and Brennan Fields would start up the second half for the AMCATS on man-up opportunities. Their goals would bring the score to just a three goals deficit for the hosting team. Rivier would do what they have done all game long and string three more goals together before the end of the quarter. Ference netted two more tallying four goals total, with Potter netting another man-up goal for his second of the game.

- The final quarter only saw two goals, one from Eck to mark his third of the game. The last score of the day came from Glover for his second goal.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) picks up his eighth win in net with 10 saves.

-  Ference paced all scorers with 4 goals.

-  Eck tallied 3 goals along with one assist.

- Rivier men's lacrosse will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Albertus Magnus for a 1 PM game.
