Men’s Lacrosse Topples Castleton in Home Opener

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier men's lacrosse team earned their first win against the Spartans of Castleton University in a non-conference.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/9/22

- Score: Rivier 14, Castleton 4

- Records: Rivier (1-1), Castleton (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Coby Mercier (Boscawen, NH) found the back of the net under three minutes into the game to start it off for the Raiders. The assist was credited to Michael Ferrence (Salem, N.H.). Ferrence went on to notch his own goal off a dish from Connor Eck (Franklin, MA) later in the contest. Castleton quickly responded with an unassisted goal by Hunter Sarro, to which the Raiders retaliated with a blistering shot from Mercier.

- The Spartans outscored the Raiders in the second quarter with two unassisted goals by Connor Rider and Casey Meczywor. Ferrence earned the Raiders lone goal of the quarter.

- It was the second half where the Raiders pulled away and never looked back. A few new faces contributed to the scoreline. Jeffery Potter (N. Bennington, VT) notched a goal during a man-up. Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) buried three, while Sawyer Hall (Windham, NH) and Michael Zapatka (Newington, CT) netted one apiece.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Sawyer Gagnon (Gorham, ME) walked away with his first win after pocketing 13 saves before subbing out. Samuel Tibbetts (Gray, ME) closed out the night with 4 saves.
