Men’s Lacrosse Bested by Keene State

KEENE, NH: The Rivier men's lacrosse team fell in their season opener this afternoon to the Owls of Keene State in non-conference action.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/5/22

- Score: Keene 18, Rivier 7

- Records: Keene (3-1), Rivier (0-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Keene went on a 13-0 run to start the contest. Joe Nutting had three goals through the first two quarters for the Owls. Keene's run was finally stopped late in the second quarter with just 1:43 left by Connor Eck (Franklin, MA). Chris Heitmiller (Nashua, NH) would close the half out with Rivier's second score of the game.

- The second half opened up with a man up goal from Nutting for his fourth of the game giving his team the 15-2 lead. Nathan Sickles would tack one more on before Colby Mercier (Boscawen, NH) would respond.

- The Raiders had their best offensive output in the fourth quarter, outscoring Keene 4-2. Mercier and Heitmiller would net their second goals of the game, with Michael Ference (Salem, NH) and Jeffery Potter (N. Bennington, VT) scoring their first goals of the season.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Nutting had a game high five goals and one assist.

-  Nathan Sickles had a four-goal game of his own for the Owls, along with three assists.

- Heitmiller and Mercier both had two goals each for the Raiders.

- Rivier men's lacrosse will be back on the field for their home opener against Castleton University Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
