Men’s Hockey Shut Out by Assumption, 3-0

WORCESTER, Mass. – Rivier men's ice hockey suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Assumption in a Saturday afternoon clash at the Worcester Ice Center.

With the loss, the Raiders fell to 9-11, while the Greyhounds improved to 21-4 and continue their dominant season.

Jonathan Surette scored the first goal of the contest with 3:27 left in the first period as he tucked in a wraparound past the skate of Luke Newell in net to put the Greyhounds in front, 1-0.

After a scoreless second, Assumption added to its lead on the powerplay, scoring on a Jake Lavoie nearside tuck to double the hosts' lead.

In the final minute, the Greyhounds added an empty netter.

Newell made 34 saves as the Raiders were outshot, 36-22.

Rivier went 0-for-2 on the man advantage while Assumption was able to score once on four tries.

This marks the first loss to a Northeast 10 opponent this season, as Rivier had previously beaten SNHU, Franklin Pierce, and Saint Anselm.

The Raiders will return to home ice on Tuesday, Feb. 6 for a clash with Framingham St. with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. at Conway Arena.
