Men’s Ice Hockey Falls 4-1 to Anna Maria

AUBURN, Mass. – Anna Maria scored three unanswered goals to skate past the Rivier men's ice hockey team on Friday night at Horgan Arena, 4-1.

The Raiders dropped to 8-8-2 while the AMCATS' victory propelled them to 12-6 on the season.

Off the opening puck drop, Anna Maria's Braden McKinnon raced into the zone, snagged a pass, and tucked a shot in the top left corner to put the AMCATS in front just 10 seconds into the contest.

Just 3:34 into the second, Rivier tied the game up at 1-1 as Jake Laville's pressure forced an Anna Maria turnover in the offensive zone, sending the puck into the slot where Nicolas Paolucci sent a one-timer into the back of the net.

The AMCATS opened the third period with a pair of goals over the first 3:54 to take a 3-1 lead.

Anna Maria would tack on an insurance goal with 7:01 remaining in regulation, putting the game fully out of reach.

Rivier was outshot, 37-30, with Raiders goaltender Luke Newell making 33 saves in the setback. Neither team was able to convert on the powerplay in the contest, as Rivier went 0-for-4 while killing all five Anna Maria extra-man opportunities.

The Raiders will return to home ice on Tuesday, Jan. 23 in a rescheduled contest against Granite State opponent Saint Anselm. An 8:45 p.m. puck drop is scheduled for this contest which will take place at Conway Arena.
