Special Teams Shines as Men’s Ice Hockey Blanks Nichols, 6-0

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team earned its second consecutive shutout with a 6-0 trouncing of Nichols on Saturday evening at Levy Rink.

With the victory, the Raiders jumped above .500 at 8-7-2 while the Bison dropped to 4-9-3 overall in the setback. The team took just 17 games to match last year's win total.

Rivier's lone even-strength goal came off the stick of Damon Kiyawasew in the opening 5:04 of the contest as he tucked in a feed from Nicolas Paolucci out in front. Kiyawasew would score his second of the period just 8:47 later as the Raiders took advantage of a powerplay opportunity.

After nearly 16 minutes of the second period had gone by, Liam Hennessy scored on the powerplay for Riv to increase the visitors' lead to three.

In the third, Rivier would score two shorthanded goals along with their third powerplay goal to finish with six on the night.

The Raiders' penalty kill was successful on all seven Bison man-advantage opportunities while the powerplay unit scored three times on 10 tries.

Rivier outshot Nichols, 35-28, with Luke Newell up to the task on all 28 shots faced to earn his second collegiate shutout.

Next on the schedule is a Tuesday night showdown against Saint Anselm with puck drop set for 7:10 p.m. at Conway Arena.
