Men’s Ice Hockey Battles JWU-Providence to 3-3 Tie

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team played to a hard-fought tie on Friday night at Conway Arena with JWU-Providence.

The Raiders now sit at 6-4-2 while the Wildcats now hold a 1-6-2 overall record.

JWU would strike first 2:36 into the first period as Harout Torosian fired in a loose puck over Mason Meyer's shoulder.

After both teams were unable to convert on powerplay opportunities, Rivier would respond on an unassisted tally by Ryan Nolte as his forechecking effort caused a turnover behind the net.

Nolte's game-tying goal came with 8:15 to play in the period. Less than two minutes later, Liam Hennessy would tip in a Tyler Sitnikov shot in the slot to give the Raiders their first lead of the game.

Hayden Haldane would re-tie the contest for the Wildcats with under 30 seconds to play as he used a nifty self-pass to clear the zone and skate past the Rivier defense and bury a backhand shot on the breakaway.

JWU's Davis Bone would put the visitors back on top with an unassisted goal at the 15:47 mark before Billy Hartnett scored on the powerplay to tie things back up at 3-3 with one minute left before the second intermission.

The Raiders would go 0-for-3 on man-advantages in the third while they killed off the lone Wildcats powerplay as the game remained tied at 3-all after 60 minutes of play.

Neither team was able to score a game-winner through the five extra minutes with each goaltender making three saves.

Rivier went 1-for-9 on the powerplay while JWU was scoreless on three attempts of its own.

Meyer made 30 saves in between the pipes for Rivier in his first collegiate start while Jake Inzirollo made 40 stops.

Rivier will wrap up its first semester on the road against No. 11 Endicott on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 4:00 p.m. at Raymond J. Bourque Arena.
