Men’s Ice Hockey Extends Win Streak to Four with 4-2 Win Over WNE

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team notched the first four-game winning streak in the program's three season history with a 4-2 victory against Western New Eng. on Tuesday evening at Conway Arena.

The win pushed Rivier to 6-4-1 on the season while the Golden Bears slid to 2-8-2 on the season.

Damon Kiyawasew scored 4:26 into the opening period on a snapshot from the right circle that beat Andrew LoRusso glove side to put the Raiders up 1-0. With under three minutes to go, Bryan Van Ness scored his first goal of the season to double Rivier's lead. Matty Zdanowicz of WNE would pop in a short-handed goal to cut the Golden Bears' deficit to one goal 1:51 before the intermission.

Van Ness' second goal of the game would be the lone of the second period on a cross-ice feed from Ryan Nolte to regain Rivier's two-goal lead.

In the final period, Jordie Morgan scored in the first 17 seconds, but that would be all that the Golden Bears would get past goaltender Luke Newell as the Raiders added an empty netter in the final 35 seconds to ice the game, 4-2.

Newell made 28 saves in his fourth victory of the season while LoRusso made 36 stops on 39 shots faced.

The Raiders were unable to convert on three powerplay opportunities, while they also kept Western New Eng. at bay on five man-advantages.

Rivier will conclude its first semester home slate in a Friday, Dec. 8 home game against JWU-Providence on Toys for Tots Night at Conway Arena with puck drop set for 7:20 p.m.
