Men’s Ice Hockey Stumbles at Trinity (Conn.)

HARTFORD, Conn. – Rivier men's ice hockey suffered an 8-1 setback against Trinity (Conn.) in a road matchup at the Koeppel Community Ice Center on Tuesday night. The Raiders fell to 2-4-1 on the year while the Bantams remained perfect, improving to 3-0.

Trinity took a 3-0 lead after the first period and doubled it after 40 minutes of play. In the third period, the Bantams scored on the powerplay and at even strength to expand their lead to eight goals. With 5:07 to play, Jake Laville ruined the shutout bid, scoring on a Rivier powerplay.

Goaltender Luke Newell allowed the first five goals and was assessed the loss, falling to 1-3-0 on the campaign. Will Augustine came in to relieve Newell before Mason Meyer took over for the final 20 minutes.

Rivier will enjoy Thanksgiving before beginning play at the Terry Moran Invitational Tournament on Friday, Nov. 24 in a matchup against Morrisville at Spartan Arena, with puck drop set for 4:00 p.m. The Raiders will then play either Castleton or MCLA in the championship or consolation game on Saturday, with a time to be determined.
