Men’s Ice Hockey Downs UMass Dartmouth, 4-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team earned its first win of the season on the final day of Family Weekend at Conway Arena on Sunday afternoon as the Raiders skated past UMass Dartmouth, 4-1. First year head coach Shaun Millerick recorded his first victory with Rivier, as the Raiders advanced to 1-2-1 on the season. The Corsairs fell to 1-2-0 with the setback.

Rivier got out to a 1-0 lead when Ryan Nolte fired a wrister from the slot past the Corsairs' goaltender just 2:41 into the first period. UMass Dartmouth would outshoot the Raiders, 9-8, in the opening 20 minutes, but were unable to level the score.

With 5:01 remaining in the second, UMass Dartmouth's Michael Perrone buried a 2-on-1 cross-crease feed from Collin Patterson to tie the game at 1-1.

Exactly two minutes later, Nicolas Paolucci would put the Raiders back up by a goal burying a feed from Cormac Hayes. The score would remain 2-1 at the second intermission.

Jake Laville scored just 5:42 into the third period to put the Raiders up by a pair before Hayes added an empty net in the final two minutes to seal Riv's first victory of the campaign.

The Corsairs threw 11 shots on goal in the final 20 minutes of regulation, but none would beat Rivier goaltender Will Augustine, who earned his first win of 2023-24.

Neither team would capitalize on their powerplay opportunities, with UMass Dartmouth going 0-for-2 and Rivier finishing 0-for-1.

The Raiders will travel away from home for the first time this season on Tuesday, Nov. 7 with a matchup against Wentworth beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink in Everett, Mass.
