Last Second Overtime Goal Lifts Suffolk Over Men’s Hockey

CHARLESTOWN, MA: The Rivier men's hockey team fell to Suffolk University this afternoon to a last second goal in Overtime.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/15/2022

- Score: Suffolk 4, Rivier 3

- Records: Suffolk (7-11-4), Rivier (5-15-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After a scoreless first period, Rivier jumped out to a 2-0 lead to start the second. Ashton Jones (South Lyon, MI) broke the scoreless game just 34 seconds into the period. Eight minutes later, while on a power play, the Raiders would tack on one more from Colby Audette (Colchester, VT).

- The Rams wouldn't go away easily in the second as they would score two goals of their own to tie the game back up going into the second break. Alex Kolowrats scored first for Suffolk at the 12:01 mark on the power play. Then, Peter Nugent would score the game's tying goal at 16:34.

- Rivier would break the tie again at the 17:08 mark into the third period on a Nicolas Paolucci (Toronto, ON) goal.

- Suffolk would again end the period by tying it up at three-all when John Garrity beat the Raider tender to send it into overtime.

- The Rams would walk it off with just 28 seconds left in the overtime period. The game winning goal was scored by Troy Ladka.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Andrew LoRusso (Peabody, MA) made 28 saves in the loss.

-  Jarret Bovarnick made 20 saves as he improves to (1-2-0) on the season.

-  Shots: Suffolk 32, Rivier 23

UP NEXT:

- Rivier men's hockey will be back in action Friday against Albertus Magnus for the GNAC Commissioner's Cup at the Olympia Ice Center in Springfield, MA. They will open the tournament up at 5 PM.
