Men’s Hockey Bested by Canton

CANTON, NY: The Rivier men's hockey team was defeated by SUNY Canton this afternoon by a score of 7-4.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/12/2022

- Score: Canton 7, Rivier 4

- Records: Canton (8-11-2), Rivier (5-14-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  After a power play goal by Raider's defensemen Zach Winslow (St. Pete Beach, FL) to start the game off, the Kangaroos answered with four straight to end the first 4-1. Brady Morrison netted two of the four in the first period, with one coming via the power play. This evening, both teams would rack up the penalties minutes, with Rivier seeing 21 minutes and Canton 35 minutes.  

- The Kangaroos would add to their lead again after a Rivier goal to start the period. Jake Mecrones (Medford, MA) would put the second Raider goal into the net before Canton would go on another three goal streak. Morrison would complete the hat trick in the period along with goals from Sam Martin and Jake Mayette.

- The third period was all Rivier, as they scored two more to cut the deficit to just three. Milan Breczko (Klasterec, CZR) would score again for Rivier. His goal would be followed up by Jon Tavella (E. Longmeadow, MA) to end the scoring for the evening.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Canton 37, Rivier 22

-  Saves: Rivier 30, Canton 18

-  Power Plays: Canton was 2 for 3, Rivier was 1 for 5.

- Rivier men's hockey ends their regular season next Tuesday against the Rams of Suffolk University. The puck drop is set for 4 pm.
