WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA: The Rivier men's hockey team tied with Western New England this afternoon in overtime.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 1/7/2022
- Score: Rivier 3, WNE 3
- Records: WNE (4-8-1), Rivier (4-8-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After a scoreless first period, the Golden Bears would get on the board first on a powerplay goal from Kyle Knight. After that, both teams would go back and forth in scoring. Milan Breczko (Klasterec, CZR) would tie things up at 1-1 seven minutes later.
- At the 15:20 mark into the second period, Nolan Zweep from WNE would put another puck past Rivier's tender to go up one. However, less than a minute later, Breczko would net his second goal of the game for a team high ninth on the season.
- The third period would start again with the Golden Bears taking the lead at 3-2 on a Demitrios Stefanou goal. Rivier would respond with just under two minutes remaining to knot it up at three-all on a Jon Tavella (E. Longmeadow, MA) score. Both third period goals came on a powerplay.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Both tenders would rack up over 30 saves. WNE's Ian Graiff would save 35 shots on net.
- Luke Newell (Littleton, CO) would finish the contest with 33 saves.
