Men’s Hockey Downed by Cortland

CORTLAND, NY: The Rivier men's hockey team opened the second semester with a loss to Cortland by a score of 11-2.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/4/2022

- Score: Cortland 11, Rivier 2

- Records: Cortland (8-4-1), Rivier (4-8-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Red Dragons took a 3-0 lead through the first period. They would add two more in the second to go up 5-0 before the Raiders would get on the board.

- Rivier would score their only two goals of the game in the second. Jon Tavella (E. Longmeadow, MA) would net two in a row for the Raiders. The first came at the 14:55 minute mark off of a pass from teammate Nicolas Paolucci (Toronto, ON). His second would come at 18:01 on a short-handed goal.  

- Cortland would go on to score three more goals in the second and finish with another three in the third period. Nate Berke and A.J. Przystawski netted two goals each for the Red Dragons.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Cortland 64, Rivier 24

-  Saves: Rivier 53, Cortland 22

-  Powerplays: Cortland was 1 for 3, Rivier was 0 for 3

- Rivier men's hockey will be back in action Friday when they travel to Western New England for a 1 PM game.
