Powerplay Struggles Plague Men’s Hockey

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier men's hockey team struggled to find the back of the net this afternoon on four powerplay opportunities that combined for 11 minutes. They fell to Neumann University by a score of 5-2.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 12/11/2021

- Score: Neumann 5, Rivier 2

- Records: Neumann (4-5-1), Rivier (4-7-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Rivier came out attacking the visiting Knights taking a quick 2-0 lead just under three minutes into the contest. Zak Justice (Bemidji, MN) started it off for the Raiders just 1:47 into the game. Matt Loftus (Simsbury, CT) struck home just one minute later to put the home team up two. Neumann would end the period with their first of five unanswered goals. Joe Digiulio got the visiting team on the board before the first break.

- Neumann would tie the game up at two-all in the second with the only score in the period. It only took 42 seconds to score the equalizer, which came off the stick of Nick Martino.

- The third is where Neumann would take the lead and add on. The Knights would put up three in the third, starting with Barry Kneedler, who took advantage of a powerplay. Luke Croucher would follow two minutes later, then once more at the 17:57 mark by Brady Mistler.

- Neumann tender Cal Ambrose would pick up the win along with 26 saves.

- Raider Tender Andrew LoRusso (Peabody, MA) would be tagged with his fifth loss on the season. He also had 26 saves in the contest.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Neumann 31, Rivier 28

-  Penalties: Rivier 6 minutes on 3 infractions, Neumann 23 minutes on 6 infractions

-  Powerplays: Neumann was 1 for 2, Rivier was 0 for 4.
