JWU-Providence Holds Off Men’s Basketball, 53-47

NASHUA, N.H. – Rivier men's basketball was defeated by Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent, JWU-Providence, on Saturday afternoon in the Muldoon Center by a final score of 53-47.

The Raiders slipped to 12-7 (4-5 GNAC) while the Wildcats improved to 6-12 (3-5 GNAC).

At halftime, the score was knotted at 21-21 as both teams struggled to knock down shots from their field. Ra'Quan Groves' seven points led the way offensively for the Raiders in the opening frame.

The Wildcats would take the lead with 17:46 to play and would grow their advantage to 13 points 7:21 later. Despite an eight-point swing in favor of the Raiders down the stretch which cut the deficit to two, the visitors would hang on to take the victory on the road.

Nikolas Pignone led the Raiders with 12 points on 4-of-14 shooting. Devin Owens registered 10 points and seven rebounds.

Rivier is set to finish its homestand in a Tuesday, Jan. 30 GNAC clash against Saint Joseph's (Maine) at 7:00 p.m. at the Muldoon Center.
