Men’s Basketball Drops 74-65 Decision to Lasell

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's basketball team was bested by Lasell in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday night at the Muldoon Center as the Lasers' came away with a 74-65 triumph.

The Raiders fell to 12-6 and 4-4 in GNAC clashes while Lasell earned its twelfth win and also sits at 12-6 overall while improving to 6-1 in conference play.

Devin Owens shined in the first half for Rivier as he poured in 22 points on 5-of-7 (71.4%) three-point shooting as the Raiders earned a nine-point lead at halftime.

It took 8:07 for the Lasers to erase the deficit as Che Hanks' made three-pointer with 11:53 left in the second gave Lasell its first lead of the contest. After a few more tie scores and lead changes, Lasell would regain the lead for good on a made Marcus Lewis free throw with 6:12 left as the Lasers would outscore Riv, 13-4 down the stretch to pull away with a nine-point victory.

Owens finished with 29 points, seven rebounds, one assist, one steal, and a block. Odarius Cade scored 11 points to go along with three rebounds, three steals, and two assists.

Che Hanks led the visitors with 28 points and three rebounds. Marcus Lewis finished one rebound shy of a double-double as he recorded 11 points.

Rivier shot 43.3% from the floor in the loss, including 40.9% from behind the arc. Lasell would answer that with a 45.8% field goal percentage on the night. The Lasers took advantage of foul shooting as they hit 13-of-18 (72.2%) of their free throws.

The Raiders continue their homestand with a 2:00 p.m. GNAC battle against JWU-Providence on Saturday, Jan. 27 at the Muldoon Center.
