Men’s Basketball Downs Brandeis in Non-Conference Clash, 73-56

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's basketball team grinded out a 73-56 non-conference victory over Brandeis on Saturday afternoon at Muldoon Gymnasium, fueled by 18 point performances by both Ahamadou Sillah and Odarius Cade. The Raiders, under the direction of first year head coach Tom Glynn, now hold a 3-1 record on the year, surpassing last season's win total. The Judges fell to .500 with the setback, sitting at 1-1.

After a contested start to the first half, Rivier reached its biggest lead on a Cade three pointer with 3:29 to play, making it 26-18 in favor of the Raiders. Rivier shot 5-of-10 from three point range in the opening half, as with Cade's 15 points leading the charge.

Rivier began the second half on an 8-2 run over the opening 3:14 as both Cade and Devin Owens each splashed a three in that span. With 9:36 to play, Sillah took a feed from Robenson Baguidy and slammed it home through the contact to earn a three-point play. After sinking the free throw, Rivier held a 60-42 lead on the visitors. The lead over the Judges would expand to 22 on a Baguidy steal and score with 3:50 to play as Rivier held on for its third victory of the season and third on its home court.

Cade led the rebounding efforts with eight boards, followed by Sillah with seven. Baguidy stuffed the stat sheet with four points, eight assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Devin Owens had an efficient outing, scoring 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the field. Ra'Quan Groves finished with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including a 2-of-2 showing from behind the arc, over 19:58.

As a team, Rivier shot 44.8% from the floor, made possible by 45.5% three-point shooting.

The victory marked the first for the Raiders in the all-time series against the Judges dating back to 2019.

The Raiders will look to grab their first road victory of the campaign when they head down to New York for a Tuesday evening showdown with Brooklyn College at 5:00 p.m. at the West Quad Competition Gymnasium.
