Men’s Basketball Comes Back to Beat JWU on Senior Day

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier men's basketball fought back into today's conference game against Johnson & Wales to defeat them 69-65. Today was senior day for men's basketball. They celebrated two seniors in Will Parsons (Rowley, MA) and Miles Gillette (Washington, DC).

THE BASICS:

- Date: 2/19/22

- Score: Rivier 69, JWU 65

- Records: Rivier (10-14, 6-11 GNAC), JWU (10-14, 8-10 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Raiders were able to come out on top in a game where there were five lead changes. JWU took a two-point lead into the break after a dominate half by Josh Zangerle, who went 5-7 from behind the three-point line, scoring 15 points. The Raiders played their best team basketball in the first half with six players scoring around six points each. Nikolas Pignone (Stoneham, MA) had the team high of nine points.

- The Wildcats maintained their lead for the majority of the second half until there was less than one minute left. With 41 seconds left, Gillette found an open Parsons in the corner, who in turn sunk the go ahead three-point shot. With the score at 67-65 in the Raiders favor, Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, MA) would go 2-for-2 from the free throw line to seal it for Rivier.

- The second half for the Wildcats was again ran by Zangerle, who had 11 points. Josef Buford (Charleston, SC) had the most success in the second for Rivier after scoring nine points and hauling in four rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Buford finished with 15 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.

-  Parsons also had 15 points, three rebounds, and two assists.

-  Zangerle had a game high 26 points and six rebounds.

- Aireus Raspberry also contributed 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists for the Wildcats.

UP NEXT:

- Rivier men's basketball will be traveling as the #11th seed in the first round of the GNAC tournament. They will head to #6 Norwich Tuesday for a 7:00 PM tipoff.
