Men’s Basketball Falls to #8 USJ

NASHUA, NH: Rivier men's basketball team fell to the University of Saint Joseph's in conference play this afternoon. USJ is currently ranked 8th in the D3Hoops top 25.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/22/2022

- Score: USJ 84, Rivier 54

- Records: USJ (13-0, 8-0 GNAC), Rivier (6-9, 2-6 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The first half was a closely contested battle. The Raiders saw themselves only being down by nine at the break.

- The Second half saw the Blue Jays take off in part to them shooting 28 free throws compared to the Raiders 11. USJ would go on the put up 49 points in the half to Rivier 28. Overall, Tyree Mitchell, Jordan Powell, and Tyshawn Jackson contributed the most in the win for the Blue Jays. Mitchell netted the team high with 18 points. Powell was one point shy of him with 17 points and 13 rebounds, and Jackson finished with 14 points and five steals.  

- For the Raiders, Miles Gillette (Washington, DC) put up the game high with 20 points and nine rebounds. Pharaoh Davis (Plainville, MA) was the second most productive player with 10 points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shooting %: USJ 45.9%, Rivier 31.5%

-  Rebounds: USJ 47, Rivier 32

-  Blocks: USJ 6, Rivier 1

- Rivier men's basketball will be back Monday when they travel to Regis College for another GNAC matchup. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
