Men’s Basketball Holds Off Dean for First Conference Win

FRANKLIN, MA: The Rivier men's basketball team picked up their first conference win this afternoon by taking down Dean College.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 1/8/2022

- Score: Rivier 62, Dean 58

- Records: Dean (5-5, 0-3 GNAC), Rivier (4-6, 1-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Rivier's first-half ultimately won the game for them. They took a four-point lead into the half 27-23. The Bulldogs were able to bounce back from an 18-6 deficit in the first half. Dean would come alive in the second to match the Raiders and tie it 35-35 for the half. The second half saw nine lead changes after Riv held a 13-point lead early on in the contest. Dean would continue to chip away at the deficit to take their first lead with 10:13 remaining. The Raiders were able to secure the win with some late free throws.  

- The Bulldogs were led by Shim Daniels with 18 points. Dean overall shot just 29% from the field and 25% from behind the arc.  

- Rivier was topped by Nikolas Pignone (Stoneham, MA), who finished the contest with 19 points. Miles Gillette (Washington, DC) was just behind him with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Rebounds: Dean 45, Rivier 39

-  Assists: Dean 14, Rivier 13

-  Steals: Rivier 4, Dean 3

- Rivier men's basketball will be back on the court Wednesday at 7:30 pm when they make the trip to Emmanuel College for another GNAC matchup.
