Field Hockey Falls Short to Bison

DUDLEY, MA: The Rivier University field hockey team traveled to non-conference opponent Nichols College this evening, where they were defeated by the Bison 4-2.  

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/28/21

- Score: Nichols 4, Rivier 2

- Records: Nichols (6-4), Rivier (0-5)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The first half of the contest was in Nichols favor as they put up two goals in the first quarter. Erin Anthony and Dana Edwards were responsible for the Bison's 2-0 lead going into the half.

-  Rivier would get on the board just six minutes into the third quarter on a Hunter Langley (Londonderry, NH) goal to cut the deficit to just one. However, Nichols would go on to score another two goals to end the third and start the fourth quarter to go up 4-1. Abigail Karalis and Ryan Mellor tallied the third and fourth goals for the Bison.  

- The Raiders would tack on one more to close out the game in the 49th minute. Chloe Sicard (Salem, NH) would net her first goal of the season to get the final of 4-2 in the hosting team's favor. Katie Olsen (Saugus, MA) had another solid performance in net with 12 saves on 16 shots faced.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Nichols 29, Rivier 9

-  Saves: Rivier 12, Nichols 4

-  Penalty Corners: Nichols 13, Rivier 4

- Field Hockey will be back in action this Thursday when they hit the road again to Fitchburg State for a 6 PM game.
