Field Hockey Drops Conference Opener to Lasers

 

NEWTON, MA: The Rivier University field hockey team opened up Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play this afternoon against Lasell University, where they fell 4-1.   

  THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/18/2021

- Score: Lasell 4, Rivier 1

- Records: Lasell (3-3, 2-0 GNAC), Rivier (0-2, 0-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Rivier jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first quarter when Lia Yohanan (Andover, NJ) scored the team's first goal of the 2021 season.

-  However, the Lasers would tie the game up at 1-1 at the end of the first quarter. Lasell would put up four unanswered goals to close out the game. They scored two in the second quarter and one more in the fourth. Sage Dodier found the back of the net twice this afternoon for the Lasers.  

- Katie Olsen (Saugus, MA) played in net for the Raiders, where she compiled eight saves on twelve shots faced.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Shots: Lasell 25, Rivier 6

-  Saves: Rivier 8, Lasell 3

-  Penalty Corners: Lasell 13, Rivier 3

UP NEXT:

- The Rivier field hockey team will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Westfield State for a 4:00 pm non-conference matchup.
