Baseball Falls to Anna Maria

NASHUA, N.H.  Rivier baseball fell to Anna Maria by a final score of 13-8 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest on Tuesday afternoon at Holman Stadium.

The Raiders dropped to 7-17 (3-5 GNAC), while the AMCATS advanced to 13-16 (6-6 GNAC).

The Raiders' offense was hot in the early going as Rivier took a 5-0 lead in the top of the first off of Kyle Hsu's RBI double and a towering three-run homerun over the left field fence by Sebastien Reis.

In the bottom of the fifth, Dylan Aliberti produced an RBI single to left field to stretch the Raiders' lead to 6-0.

Anthony Morro started on the mound for the Raiders, only allowing two hits while striking out four Anna Maria batters. After getting out of a jam in the fifth, Rivier allowed the AMCATS to put together a strong rally in the top of the sixth with Kosta Drosidis' base-clearing double to left field giving the AMCATS their first lead of the contest, 7-6. Jeremy Rosenberg's RBI single through the right side completed the inning and put Anna Maria up by a pair.

In the top of the eighth, Anna Maria scored one run off a sacrifice fly, improving its lead to 9-6.

The Raiders produced a strong scoring effort in the bottom of the eighth fueled by Owen Medlock's single to center, followed by Hsu's bunt down the third base line which brought in one run on an errant throw. On the next pitch, Medlock crossed home plate on a passed ball, bringing the Raiders within one, 9-8.

The AMCATS had a quick response in the top of the ninth, scoring four runs to pull away with the victory.

Patrick Young was handed the loss today after coming in to relieve Brendan Ferris in the sixth inning.

The Raiders are set to continue their homestand on Thursday, April 18 in a non-conference matchup against Framingham St., with first pitch set for 4:00 p.m. back at Holman Stadium.
