Baseball Swept On Road By Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – In a Saturday non-conference doubleheader, Rivier baseball was swept by Springfield, falling 2-1 in game one before dropping game two, 8-1, at Archie Allen Field.

The Raiders now sit at 4-15 overall while the Pride improved to 13-10.

Rivier will be back in action on Sunday, April 7 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) clash at Mackenzie Stadium with first pitch set for 1:00 p.m.

Springfield 2, Rivier 1

Alex Gallicano put the Raiders in front with an RBI single in the top of the second, scoring JD Normand. Springfield responded in the bottom half of the frame, tying the game on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Sweet.

In the third, the Pride scored what would be the game-winning run as Michael Lepere knocked an RBI single to right.

Sean Kulhoff tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs, taking the loss.

Springfield 8, Rivier 1

After three and a half scoreless innings, Springfield broke the scoring drought to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth.

Rivier's Luis Colon tied it up in the top of the sixth, pushing Colton Colleran over the plate on an RBI single through the right side. The Pride would go on to score seven runs in the sixth to go up 8-1.

Dean Adams got the start in game two of the twinbill, throwing five innings of one-run ball, posting two strikeouts.
