Lions Defeat Baseball

NASHUA, NH: Rivier baseball lost to Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference play at Holman Stadium this evening.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/20/23

- Score: ENC 6, Rivier 1

- Records: Rivier (8-21, 5-7 GNAC), ENC (23-6)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Rivier was able to hold ENC to two runs, until the eighth inning. Four of Eastern Nazarene's six runs were unearned. The Raiders had six errors, while the Lions had two.

- It was a scoreless first inning for both teams. In the top of the second inning, Anderson Jimenez reached first because of an error, which sent Frank Landeiro home for ENC.

- No runs were scored again until the top of the fifth when Landeiro hit a sac fly to center field, giving Tyler Bean enough time to cross the plate.

- It was a quiet sixth inning. In the bottom of the seventh, Patrick Young (Billerica, MA) singled to left, scoring Zachary White (Long Beach, CA).

- Lions' Brandon Guerrero singled up the middle, pushing Kelvin Cortez home in the eighth inning. ENC scored two more runs caused by a throwing error.

- In the ninth inning, the Lions final run of the game was generated by an error. The Raiders were unable to score in the bottom of the ninth.

- Sam Kalivas (Methuen, MA) of Rivier was tagged with the loss. Spencer Boynton of ENC gained the win, pitching seven innings, and striking out 14 batters.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- White was 3-for-4, with 1 run

- Young was 1-for-4, with 1 RBI

- Jacob Boudreau (Auburn, NH) earned a stolen base

UP NEXT:

- Rivier baseball will travel to face Norwich University Saturday for a doubleheader, in Northfield, VT. The first pitch will be at 1:00PM for game one and 3:30PM for game two.
