AMCATS Take Two from Baseball

MARLBOROUGH, MA: Rivier baseball fell in both contests this afternoon to Anna Maria College in conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/15/23

- Score: AMC 10, Rivier 3. AMC 11, Rivier 3

- Records: AMC (15-12, 9-1 GNAC), Rivier (7-19, 4-6 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  The AMCATS started this one off with a leadoff home run from James Powers. Another two runs would come across on an error to extend the first-inning lead to 3-0. They would plate one more on a still of home by Hunter Dunithan.

- The Raiders would plate two in the top of the fourth to make it a two-run ball game at 2-4 on a double by Jacob Boudreau (Auburn, NH). The AMCATS would have another big inning in the bottom of the fifth inning when they pushed across five. Jarrod Marifiote led it off with a two-run shot to right field. Another came across on a wild pitch, with the final two coming on a double to right center by AJ Guitron-Moore.  

- Riv would plate one more in the top of the sixth on a deep blast to left field by Luis Tejada (Methuen, MA).

- Nick Choate would be credited with the win after going five innings allowing just five hits, two earned runs, and five strikeouts. Anthony Morro (Durham, CT) was tagged with the loss after completing 4.1 innings, allowing eight hits and six earned runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Marifiote was 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs.

-  Moore was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs.

-  Boudreau was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  The AMCATS would put up three in the first inning on a sacrifice fly and another Marifiote home run. This time it was a two-run shot to right field. The Raiders would respond in the top of the fourth, making it a one-run game 2-3. Dylan Aliberti (Sandown, NH) and Jacob Plamondon (Manchester, NH) would both hit RBI singles.  

-  Marifiote would come up again to get another hit. This time it was a single down the right field line to plate another. They tacked on three more in the bottom of the sixth, highlighted by another Powers home run to right field. This was a two-run shot. The AMCATS would close out their scoring with another four-run inning in the bottom of the eighth, with two scoring on hit-by pitches and two off of a double by Kosta Drosidis to center field.  

- Zackary White (Long Beach, CA) would bring in the last Raider run with a sacrifice fly.

- Anthony Pingeton got the win (6-1) after an eight-inning performance, allowing eight hits and two earned runs with 14 strikeouts. Wesly Martinez (Methuen, MA) was tagged with the loss (1-5) after pitching in six innings, allowing ten hits and seven earned runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Marifiote was 4-for-4 with 2 runs scored, a home run, and 4 RBIs

-  Powers was 2-for-4 with 3 runs scored, a home run, and 2 RBIs

-  Aliberti was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
