Baseball Falls in Conference Opener

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier baseball team fell in both games against Norwich University this afternoon in conference action.  

THE BASICS:

- Date: 3/26/22

- Score: Norwich 5, Rivier 1. G2 Norwich 11, Rivier 2

- Records: Norwich (11-3, 2-0 GNAC), Rivier (1-10, 0-2 GNAC)

GAME ONE:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Matt Ingraffia pitched a two hit complete game for the Cadets, striking out ten Raiders and only walking one.

- Rivier plated their only run in the bottom of the fourth when they picked up their only two hits. Jacob Boudreau (Auburn, NH) started the inning off with a double down the left field line. Frank Gulezian (Derry, NH) would bat him in on the next pitch with a single down the right field line.

- The Biggest hit for the Cadets came in the fifth. It was a two run single up the middle by Abel Oropeza.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Oropeza was a perfect 3-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

-  Tyler Callahan went 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.

-  Gulezian was 1-for-3 with 1 RBI.

GAME TWO:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Cadets would go up 2-0 in the top of the first before the Raiders would get one back. Connor Dines (Framingham, MA) would trade places with Gulezian after back-to-back doubles to put the score at 2-1.

- Norwich would add three more runs between the second (1) and third (2) innings to go up 5-1. Rivier would plate their second and final run of the day in the bottom of the third on a KC walk off play, with the runner at first purposely running into a pickle, allowing Gulezian to steal home.

- The Cadets would then go off for six more runs to close out the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Ben Emero would get his third win of the season on the mound, pitching 5 innings allowing just 4 hits, and striking out 5.

- Hayden Roberge would go 3-for-4 with an RBI for Norwich.

- Gulezian would top the Raiders offense going 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.    

 UP NEXT:

- Rivier baseball is back in action tomorrow against Mass Maritime. Game times are set at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm.
