Finlayson, Davis named Student-Athletes of the Month

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Department of Athletics has announced this evening that senior Kenna Finlayson and junior Alec Davis have been named the 'Rivier University Student-Athletes of the Month' for September 2012.

Kenna Finlayson has been named the first Rivier University Female Student-Athlete of the Month for her outstanding efforts within the month of September.

The Senior from Derry, New Hampshire has paced the Women's Volleyball team to an impressive 10-5 record, including posting a perfect 2-0 GNAC and wins against in-state foes Plymouth State and Keene State.

She currently leads the team in several categories including kills (239), service aces (34) and total points (284). Finlayson was named to the Springfield Invitational All-Tournament team after posting 46 kills in three matches. The following weekend, she was tabbed an All-Tournament selection in the Roger Williams Tournament after leading the Raiders with 73.5 total points in the three matches played.

Finlayson was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Player of the Week earlier this month and is currently averaging an incredible 5.7 points per set.

Junior Alec Davis has been selected as the first Rivier University Male Student-Athlete of the Month. The Men's Cross Country captain has been the top finisher for Rivier in all three September meets.

The Amherst, New Hampshire native is a Dean's list Student-Athlete studying Business Management. Alec also has been the top finisher for Rivier Men's Cross Country in all three meets this season. In the first meet of 2012 season at the Travis Fuller Invitational hosted by Mass Maritime Academy, Davis beat his previous personal best time by 33 seconds and broke the thirty minute mark at 29 minutes 55 seconds.

In River's 2nd meet this fall Alec finished 1st overall at the Daniel Webster Invitational in 29 minutes 41 seconds, another personal best time, a full two minutes and one second before the meets 2nd place finisher crossed the line. Alec received the GNAC Runner of the Week award for his effort in the Daniel Webster Invitational Meet.

Alec Davis continued re-setting his personal best time running at River's' Home Invitational Meet on Friday September 21st recording another personal best time of 28 minutes 16 seconds.
