Women's Volleyball: Raiders sweep Saint Lawrence & UMass-Boston

NASHUA, N.H. – The River University Women's Volleyball team took a pair of non-conference contests this afternoon against Saint Lawrence University and the University of Massachusetts at Boston, both in straight sets, at the Muldoon Gymnasium. Saint Lawrence topped UMass-Boston in the middle match of the days tri-match hosted by the Raiders.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Saint Lawrence University 0 (Final)

The Raiders came out and defended home court as they swept the Saints in straight sets by scores of 25-17, 25-21 and 25-20.

Senior Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) led the way offensively as she recorded a .308 hitting percentage as she hammered down a team-high 10 kills. Junior Julia Zargaj (Groveland, Mass.) added seven winners and a .316 hitting percentage while sophomore Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Mass.) chipped in with five kills. Sophomore setter Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) dished out 25 assists and registered a block solo. Zargaj added four total blocks in the contest as both Dunster and Racevicius collected 15 and 13 digs, respectively, in the win.

Saint Lawrence was paced by Marissa Parker, who had six kills and Amanda Teppo helped out with five kills of her own. Jenna Britton handed out 14 helpers while Reagan Collier-Hogan registered the game high of 16 digs. Natalie Piper also reached double figures with 13 digs in the loss.

Game Two: Saint Lawrence University 3, University of Massachusetts-Boston 1 (Final)

The Saints rolled into the middle match of the day and turned out a four-set win over the University of Massachusetts-Boston by set scores of 26-24, 25-22, 19-25 and 25-14.

Piper guided Saint Lawrence with 16 kills and swung at a .368 clip while also collecting 14 digs. Annika Kreppein added nine kills for the Saints with Treppo checking in at a .357 hitting percentage and five winners. Britton dished out 23 assists and Allie Posnick also reached double-figures with 14 assists. Collier-Hogan scooped up 22 digs in the win. .

The Beacons saw junior Emilia Cazapiewska (Saint Paul, Minn.) register the team-high of 11 kills with both freshman McKayla Geraghty (Elgin, Ill.) and senior Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Ariz.) each chipped in with seven winners in their opening contest. Junior Carsen Komminsk (Worthington, Ohio) dished out 35 assists to go along with her 11 digs. Also reaching double-figures in digs were Senior Sidnee Berch (Boca Raton, Fla.), who scooped up 14 digs, and junior Tyla Parker (Mahwah, N.J.), who finished with 13 digs.

Game Three: Rivier University 3, UMass-Boston 0 (Final)

The Raiders finished off the day with a clean three-set sweep of the Beacons by set scores of 25-21, 29-27 and 25-18.

Dunster once again led the charge offensively has she had 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage while also recording the team-high of 11 digs. Zargaj also contributed with 10 kills (.444 hitting percentage) and senior Jess Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.) added nine kills in the win. Pollard handed out 33 helpers to go along with her seven digs with Racevicius scooping up 10 digs. Senior Taryn Higareda (Roseland, Calif.) played well along the back line as she registered eight digs over the three sets.

The Beacons saw Marcelle Tiscareno register the game-high with 11 kills on the match with Czapiewska adding seven kills. Kominsk dished out 29 assists and Berch recorded the game-high of 17 digs in the loss for UMass-Boston.

Rivier will enjoy some time off before they return to action next Thursday night as they get set to host the University of Southern Maine. Game time is set for 7pm at the Muldoon Gymnasium.
