Women's Volleyball: Raiders sweep both Saint Joseph's & Albertus Magnus

(Standish, Maine) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team returned to Great Northeast Athletic Conference action this morning as they swept both Saint Joseph's College (Maine) and Albertus Magnus College in straight sets at the Harold Alfond Center. The Raiders improve to 21-6 overall and are now 9-1 in the conference while the Monks move to 9-15, 4-6 GNAC and the Falcons stumble to 11-14 on the season and a 3-9 mark against the GNAC.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Saint Joseph's College (Maine) 0 (Final)

Rivier took the day's opening game with set scores of 25-15, 25-17 and 25-15.

Junior Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) powered the offense with a 10-kill effort and freshman Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) hit triple 7's with 7 kills, 7 assists and 7 digs. Senior setter Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) handed out 19 assists and classmate Taylor White (Dunstable, Mass.) picked up eight digs. Dunster was the team dig leader with nine and graduate Courtney Collins (Litchfield, N.H.) contributed with three total blocks and four kills.

Erin Olson led the Monks with eight kills and Sarah Dyer dished out 8 assists while Jennelle Thompson collected 11 digs.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Albertus Magnus College 0 (Final)

Rivier closed out its trip to Maine with a clean 3-0 sweep of Albertus Magnus by set scores of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-14.

Dunster once again powered the Raiders as she hammered down 11 kills, recorded a .667 hitting percentage and picked up nine digs. Macken totaled 30 helpers and seven digs in the win. Sophomore Jillian Rabasco (Nashua, N.H.) chipped in with a six-kill effort as did classmate Emma Soucy (Dunbarton, N.H.) who also registered three block solos (four total blocks). Freshman Leah Giampietro (Coventry, R.I.) had a solid game from the line as she totaled six service aces.

The Falcons saw Vanessa Isyk pace the offensive effort with 10 kills and a .333 hitting percentage. Jaiden Williams handed out 15 assists and also led the team with eight digs. Jesselle Guzman scooped up seven digs and Genesis Cora Luquis had four kills in the loss.

The Raiders will return to the friendly confines of the Muldoon Gymnasium on Wednesday night as they host Salem State University for a non-conference affair beginning at 7pm.
