Women's Volleyball: Raiders sweep both USJ and Framingham State

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team continued their winning ways this afternoon as they swept both University of Saint Joseph and Framingham State University in a tri-match at the Muldoon Gymnasium. The Raiders improve to 17-5 overall with the wins and are now a perfect 7-0 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action with the win over USJ.

Game One: Rivier University 3, University of Saint Joseph 0 (Final)

In the opener, the Raiders used set scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-17 to defeat the Blue Jays in straight sets.

Freshman Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.) registered a .550 hitting percentage as she hammered down 12 kills to lead the offensive effort while also scooping up 10 digs along the backline. Junior Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) chipped in with an eight-kill, seven-dig effort while classmate Jessica Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.) recorded a .667 hitting percentage with six kills. Freshman setter Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) directed the offense to a .350 hitting percentage as she handed out 32 assists and senior Taylor White (Dunstable, Mass.) controlled the defensive effort with 13 digs. Junior Sunny Foglia (Remsenburg, N.Y.) and sophomore Jillian Rabasco (Nashua, N.H.) each totaled five blocks in the win.

USJ was guided by Hannah Benson who led the team with six kills and Amianah Tsonga contributed with four kills and eight digs. Brenna Miller dished out 12 assists and Janell Molina picked up 11 digs along the backline.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Framingham State University 0 (Final)

The Raiders finished out the day with a 3-0 sweep of Framingham State by set scores of 25-8, 25-17 and 25-21.

Racevicius led the way in the finale as she collected nine kills, seven digs and two total blocks. Graduate Courtney Collins (Litchfield, N.H.) hammered down seven kills and accumulated six total blocks and Whyte finished with seven kills of her own. Freshman Leah Giampietro (Coventry, R.I.) paced the defense with 14 digs and Dunster picked up seven digs and six kills in the win. Pollard was outstanding in the finale as she totaled 27 assists and five service aces while Rabasco was a part of four total blocks.

The Rams saw Brandee Thomas and Grace Caughey lead the way with five kills each while Mackenzie Whalen handed out 10 assists and six digs.

Rivier will return to action on Thursday (10/11) evening when they travel to Boston and face Emmanuel College at 7pm.
