Women's Lacrosse fall in GNAC Quarterfinals 21-5

(Bath, Maine) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell this evening on the road against Saint Joseph's (Me.) in the GNAC Quarterfinals by the score of 21-5. With the loss, the Raiders end their 2015 campaign with a 4-13 (3-6 GNAC) record. As for Saint Joseph's, they advance to the GNAC Semi-finals, and improve their season record to 15-1 (9-0 GNAC).
This was a very tough matchup for the Raiders. Facing the undefeated (In the GNAC) Monks on the road turned out to be no easy task. To begin the game, the Monks were the first to score, notching a goal at the 28:33 mark, and again at the 26:26 mark. Rivier was able to get themselves on the board when Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to bury an impressive shot past the goalie to cut the Monk lead to 2-1. Unfortunately, the Monks would respond right back with another two quick goals.
Jocelyn Park (Londonderry, N.H.) was able to score the second goal of the game for the Raiders at the 20 minute mark off of an excellent free-position shot. Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) was able to score again for the Raiders off of another free-position shot at the 12 minute mark. Paxton Larocque, (Londonderry, N.H.) off of a great feed from Savannah Neuwirt, (Newbury, N.H.) was able to score a crucial man-up goal for the Raiders at the 9:38 mark. Unfortunately for Rivier, the Monks would round out the first half by scoring the final 4 goals. Saint Joseph's led Rivier at the half, 10-4.
It was all Saint Joseph's in the second half. Unfortunately for Rivier, the Monks were able to shut down the Raiders on defense, while also cashing in on 11 straight goals to bury the Raiders in this one. Paxton Larocque (Londonderry, N.H.) was able to score for the Raiders at the 1:45 mark, but it made no difference in the outcome.
The Raiders had a great season, one with many ups and downs. This year's graduating seniors will be greatly missed this upcoming season, but the Raiders, led by head coach Ellen Maruszewski, are heading in the right direction towards future success, and will continue to grow each and every year.
