Women's Basketball: Raiders open up season against Plymouth State

(Concord, N.H.) The Basketball season has officially gotten underway this evening when the Rivier University Women's Basketball team tipped off with Plymouth State University in the annual "Boys and Girls Club Classic" hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute. The Raiders dropped the season-opener, 67-47 and are now 0-1 on the year.

Plymouth State outscored Rivier 17-8 in the second quarter to essentially put the game out of reach.

Junior Kaylee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) led all scorers with a game-high 27 points while pulling down nine rebounds. Classmate Megan Hamel (Colebrook, N.H.) had a solid season debut as she recorded a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Senior Emilee Kacavas (Dracut, Mass.) finished with five point and five boards for Rivier.

The Panthers were paced by Jess Conant's 20 point, 8 rebound effort with Debra Morrill adding 12 points and seven rebounds. Elizabeth McLaughlin also pulled down seven rebounds in a reserve effort.

It will be a short turnaround time for the Raiders as they will travel down on Dartmouth, Massachusetts for their annual participation in the UMass-Dartmouth Tip-Off Classic. Rivier will appear in the 12pm game on Friday afternoon against the Corsairs.
