Softball: Greeno strikes out 11 as Raiders roll to sweep of NVU-Lyndon

(Hudson, N.H.) The Rivier University Softball team made it three wins in a row this afternoon as they defeated visiting Northern Vermont University-Lyndon twice in a non-conference double-header, 8-0 and 17-0 at Presentation of Mary Academy. The wins bolster the Raiders overall record to 4-8 on the season while the Hornets remain winless at 0-8.

Game One: Rivier University 8, Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 0 (Final/5 innings)

The Raiders scored first in the home half of the first inning and then added five more in the second and two in the fourth on their way to an 8-0 mercy rule win over the Hornets.

Freshman Katerina St. Angelo (Johnston, R.I.) went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and junior Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) added two RBI on her 2-for-4, two runs scored and two stolen base game one performance at the dish. Eight of the starting nine Raiders recorded base hits and freshman Micayla Bourski (Pawtucket, R.I.) came off the bench and added a pinch-hit RBI single.

Junior Courtney Trahan (Brooklyn, Conn.) earned the shutout victory as she spun five innings of one-hit ball while striking out two.

Amber Roberts suffered the loss for NVU-Lyndon as she gave up eight runs (four earned) on twelve hits while retiring two by way of the k. Roberts also registered the only hit with a single to lead off the third inning.

Game Two: Rivier University 17, Northern Vermont University-Lyndon 0 (Final/5 innings)

The offensive production kept rolling in game two for the Raiders as they plated seven runs in the first inning on their way to a 17-0 game two win and a double-header sweep of the Hornets.

Freshman Sara Mainville (Lowell, Mass.) was perfect 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBI to lead the charge as senior Mikayla Ramsdell (Salem, N.H.) added two RBI on her own 3-for-4 showing at the dish. Freshman Nicole Capra (Lowell, Mass.), junior Taylor Rowsell (Chelmsford, Mass.) and junior Kendall Liggett (Litchfield, N.H.) all recorded two-hit games while freshman Hunter Greenleaf (Scarborough, Maine) chipped in with two RBI in the win.

Freshman Sydney Greeno (Shirley, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with a RBI at the plate and inside the circle she recorded her first collegiate win with a dazzling four-hit shutout striking out eleven.

Emma Moore allowed seven runs in the first inning for NVU-Lyndon before Roberts came in relief and surrendered the final ten runs in the loss. Emma Corey, Cecilla Chamul, Meghan Campo and Alexis Britch all registered base hits for the Hornets.

Next up for the Raiders will be their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests of the season as they host Suffolk University next Saturday afternoon (April 6) at PMA.
