Emerson Downs Raiders 4-0

Emerson Downs Raiders 4-0

Nashua, NH - After a tightly played first half, the Lions from Emerson College scored 3 second half goals to defeat the Raiders by a final of 4-0.  Emerson's Mike Giles (Wakefield, RI) scored two goals in the second half while Kevin Peters (Nanuet, NY) had the game winning first goal at the halfway point in the first half.

Peters scored the first goal of the game at the 21:33 mark in the first half after picking up the rebound of a John Jarvis (Henniker, NH) save on a shot from Emerson teammate Cory Walls (Scituate, MA).  Rivier had 3 shots on goal in the first half, but couldn't find the back of the net and went in to half time trailing 1-0.

The second half was dominated by the much deeper Emerson squad.  The Lions got off 18 total shots, including 6 shots on goal, but the Raiders could only manage 2 total shots and 0 shots on goal for the remainder of the game.  Giles scored his first of two goals at the 56:35 mark when he too was the recipient of a saved Cory Walls shot.  Walls was able to find the back of the net a little later to put the Lions up 3-0 at 60:08 and Peters finished the scoring at 69:57 with his second goal and the teams fourth.

Jarvis made 9 saves for the Raiders, but allowed all 4 goals in the loss.  His counterpart, Aaron Drescher (Latham, NY) saved all 3 shot attempts that came his way and picked up the win for Emerson.  Rivier's Chris Nugent (Camberly, UK) was able to get 3 shots off (2 on goal) to lead the Raiders, who fell to 1-10 overall and 0-5 in GNAC play.  Emerson improves to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the GNAC.

Rivier will host another GNAC opponent, Norwich University, at 5:00 PM on Monday, October 11th.  Meanwhile the Lions will take on Suffolk University on the same day at 12:00 PM.
