Men's Lacrosse: Raiders grab first win at home.

(NASHUA, N.H.) The Rivier University Raiders topped the visiting Mitchell College Mariners at Joanne Merrill field tonight, 14-2.

It was quite the home opener as the Raiders seemingly showed some restraint dominating posession and picking their shots.  Sophomore Nick Ackerman (Durham, N.H.) struck first with an unassisted goal and less than three mintues later junior Jacob Enwright (Dracut, Mass.) notched his first of the match.  The Raiders continued their barrage of shots and only conceded two shots in the first period. Mariners attacker Jade Shields (Hempstead, N.Y.) put one of the shots in before the buzzer to narrow the lead to 2-1.

Shields came out-of-the-gate with quick-shot in a man-up situation within 30 seconds and scored the second and what was the final goal of the match for Mitchell.

The Raiders scored the next five goals to lead 7-2 at the break.  Freshman Jeffrey Potter (N. Bennington, Vt.) notched two goals while Sophomore Corey Hicks (Londonderry, N.H.), senior Drew Fuller (Westfield, Mass.) and Ackerman each chipped in with a goal apiece.

In the second half the Raiders doubled their goals and kept the Mitchell out of their half with the predominance of posession on attack and hard-nosed defense in the midfield.  The Raiders collected 21 ground balls to the Mariners 9 and out-shot them 52-16.

The win raises the Raiders to 1-2 and the loss drops the Mariners to 1-3.  Up next for the Raiders will be another non-conference challenge against Becker College at home on Saturday at 1PM.
