Men's Lacrosse: Rivier tripped up by Nichols College,17-5.

(Nashua, N.H.)  The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse program dropped their first game of the season against the Bison of Nichols College in Dudley, Massachusetts, 17-5.

First to get on the board for the Raiders this season was sophomore Nick Ackerman (Durham, N.H.) at the 5:06 mark. The goal came shortly after sophomore Corey Hicks (Londonderry, N.H.) zinged his first attempt at goal off the post.   The goal served as an equalizer to neutralize the Bison.  Unfortunately, the hosts popped two more in before the end of the period.

In the second period the Raiders found some momentum.  Freshmen Jeffrey Potter (New Bennington, Vt.) netted two unassisted goals.  In between these two points, junior midfielder Jacob Enwright (Dracut, Mass.) notched his first goal of the season.

The Raiders went scoreless in the third period however maintained a presence in the attacking third rifling off eleven shots.  In the same period the Raiders collected nine ground balls and went 6-6 on their clear attempts.

In the final stretch the Raiders had eight attempts on goal, however it was the last one that beat the Bison goalie with just 10 seconds to go.  The culprit, Potter who earned a hat-trick in his first collegiate appearance. 

Rivier's goalie Ben Fitzpatrick (Stoneham, Mass.) dealt with 48 shots on the night, 18 of which were snagged by the junior. 

Some other positive takeaways include topping the hosts 14-25 at the center circle, thirteen of which were credited to senior midfielder Travis Gusikoff (Legrangeville, N.Y.).  The hosts pulled away with eleven. The Raiders also picked up 26 groundballs to the Bison's 23.

The loss brings the Raiders to an 0-1 record while the Bison earn their first win of the season.

Up next for the Raiders will be a trip down to Salem, Massachusetts to face off against the Vikings of Salem State University at 7PM.
