Plymouth St. Powers Past Field Hockey, 4-1

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team fell to non-conference foe Plymouth St. by a final score of 4-1 on Tuesday evening at Merrill Field. With the loss, the Raiders fell to 1-4 on the season, while the Panthers stayed unbeaten, advancing to 4-0.

After a scoreless first quarter, it would be the visitors who would strike first as Mackenzie Labrie's goal from Taylor Healey would open the scoring 3:48 into the second quarter. Less than six minutes later, Rivier's Sydney Spenard would equalize the score, slotting the ball past the outstretched arms of Panthers' goalie Kayla Antonucci, cleaning up her own rebound.

At the half, both teams were deadlocked at 1-1 with Plymouth St. outshooting the Raiders, 19-5, with Rivier goalkeeper, Kylie Coupal, registering seven saves.

Just 4:20 into the second half, Alessia Salzillo would give the Panthers the lead when she fired a pass from Healey past Coupal off a corner sequence. The Panthers would then score twice in the early going of the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach and come away with the road victory.

The Panthers fired 40 total shots in the contest, landing 18 on goal. Coupal made 14 saves in the contest. Plymouth St. also earned 15 corners to the Raiders' eight.

The Raiders will continue their six-game homestand in a noon matchup against JWU-Providence on Saturday in a continuation of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play.
