Field Hockey: Roth, Raiders fall in double-OT at Colby-Sawyer

(New London, N.H.) The Rivier University Field Hockey team suffered their fifth one-goal loss this afternoon as they dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Colby-Sawyer College, 3-2 in double-overtime. The loss sends the Raiders to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in conference play while the Chargers are now 5-3 overall, 2-1 in the GNAC.

Colby-Sawyer jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Colleen Burke connected on a pass from Julia Lanctot in the 1st minute. Rivier would answer as freshman Maegan Sheehy (Sabattus, Maine) received a pass from junior Jaclyn Fraser (Wilmington, Mass.) for her 4th of the season and knotted things a one apiece. 10 minutes later however, CSC's Rachel Fisher gave the Chargers the lead as she was the beneficiary off a feed from Jordan Teixeira in the 15th minute.

That would be all the first half scoring as the teams battled evenly over the remainder of the contest. With time running down in the second half, the Raiders were able to get the equalizer as senior Linsey Roth (Tyngsboro, Mass.) batted home a pass from freshman Amy Eacho (Kingston, N.H.) in the 67th minute.

After a scoreless first overtime period, Teixeira then setup Allie Jones for the game winner in the 81st minute to give the Chargers the victory.

Rivier senior keeper Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) was electric all night for the Raiders as she made seven saves. Colby-Sawyer goalie Abby Ladd allowed two goals on the three shots she faced on net.

The Raiders will be back in action on Thursday night as they host Framingham State University in a non-conference contest at Raider Field. Game time is set for 7pm.
