Baseball: Ferdinand sets program record for hits at Clark with first HR

(Worcester, Mass.) Senior Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) set the program career record for hits this afternoon as the Rivier University Baseball team fell to Clark University, 9-1 in a non-conference contest.

Ferdinand broke the record, formerly held by Taylor Black '16, in style with his first collegiate home run in the fourth inning. Ferdinand now has 129 hits in just three years in RivNation. He finished the ballgame going 1-for-4 with the HR.

Freshman Cameron Way (El Cajon, Calif.) suffered the loss on the mound in his first start since March 18. The right-hander allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and struck out three over his five innings of work. Classmate Daniel White (Augusta, Maine) tossed two scoreless innings and junior James Magno (Gray, Maine) allowed three runs in his lone inning on the mound.

Cam Smith was credited with the win for the Cougars who also got a four-hit night from Teddy Downing.

Rivier (5-18 overall) will return to action tomorrow night as they host Emerson College at 7pm inside Historic Holman Stadium.
