Baseball: Rivier falls at home to Lesley University

(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team endured another loss this evening as the visiting Lesley University Lynx took home the 16-0 non-conference victory at Historic Holman Stadium. Lesley improves to 14-10 overall on the season while the Raiders dip to 1-22.

The story of the night was the pitching from Lesley sophomore Nick DeGrenier (Marshfield, Mass.) who limited the Rivier offense to just four hits in a complete game shutout effort. DeGreiner (4-1) struck out four and did not issue a walk over his nine innings of work.

Rivier freshman Alex DiVito (Somerville, Mass.) went five innings in just his second career start as the right-hander allowed ten runs, five earned, on six hits while striking out two. Classmates Martin Acosta (Salem, N.H.), Brennan Reeves (Coventry, R.I.) and Christopher Ciacci (New Bedford, Mass.) allowed just one earned run (six total) over the final four frames.

Junior Tyler Ferdinand (Middleboro, Mass.) recorded two of the Raiders' four hits off of DeGreiner as he finished the evening going 2-for-3 while senior Jacob Rayner (Billerica, Mass.) and junior Jonathan De La Cruz (Haverhill, Mass.) smacked a double each to account for the offensive output.

Offensively the Lynx were led by senior Mike Slaby (Foxboro, Mass.) who went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Sophomore Nick Ferragine (Randolph, N.J.) also went 2-for-4 and sophomore Gage Reycroft (Fort Myers, Fla.) finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored.

Next up for the Raiders will be another non-conference tilt at Historic Holman Stadium on Thursday evening as they welcome Plymouth State University for a 7:05pm first pitch. Lesley, meanwhile, will be right back at it tomorrow as they take on Elms College in a NECC double-header.
