Bio

Rick Rowsell was promoted to Director of Sports Medicine in August 2023 after serving as an athletic trainer on staff for the previous two seasons.

Rowsell, a nationally certified athletic trainer since 2017, is licensed in both New Hampshire and Massachusetts, is CPR and AED certified, with current certifications in therapeutic cupping techniques, as well as dry needling.

While overseeing the day-to-day operations of the sports medicine staff and administering acute care, prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to all student-athletes, Rowsell is tasked with several administrative duties. These duties include ensuring certifications and licensure of the sports medicine staff are in good standing and up to date, maintaining knowledge of athletic training best practices as well as implementing them into Emergency Action Plans, coordinating coverage for all 15 varsity sports, communicating with team physician and staff, and handling insurance claims for injured student-athletes.

Before arriving in Nashua, Rowsell went back to Merrimack College for an accelerated one-year Master’s degree fellowship, where he worked with Division I football as well as men’s and women’s tennis on campus. 

He served as the head athletic trainer for Dracut High School through Northeast Rehabilitation Hospital before obtaining his master's. There he also worked in a physical therapy clinic and ran the Maintenance Exercise Program, one of only two programs in the company designated for continuation of strength, endurance, and knowledge of exercise post-formal rehabilitation.

Rowsell graduated from Merrimack in 2017 with a Bachelor’s in Athletic Training. During this time, he first obtained his credentials of a board-certified athletic trainer.
