Women's Volleyball: Raiders swept at Simmons, 3-0

BOSTON, MASS. – The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team saw their winning streak come to an end this evening as Simmons University earned the 3-0 victory over the Raiders in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action on Wednesday night. The loss snaps the seven game winning streak the Raiders had entering the contest as they are now 13-4 on the season and 2-1 in the conference. The Sharks improve to 11-5 overall, 5-1 against conference foes.

Simmons won by set scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-20.

Sophomore Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.) was the kill-leader as she hammered down nine winners while also collecting eight digs. Junior Julia Zargaj (Groveland, Mass.) added seven kills and five total blocks while senior Jess Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.) chipped in with five kills. Sophomore setter Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) dished out 21 assists on the night with senior Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) patrolling the backline with 12 digs.

The Shark-attack was guided by Megan Purser, who had eight kills and a .438 hitting percentage. Morgan Weeg matched Purser with eight kills in the win while both Amanda Fortune and Krissy Lloyd contributed five kills each. Faith Gray-Williams was the assist leader with 22 helpers and Morgan Lauray scooped up a game-high 16 digs.

Rivier will be back on the court this Saturday morning as they host Salve Regina University and Westfield State University in a non-conference tri-match inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The first match against Salve Regina is scheduled for 11am.
