Women's Volleyball: Raiders storm back to down Southern Maine, 3-1

(Gorham, Maine) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team earned a 3-1 non-conference victory this evening on the road at the University of Southern Maine in the team's final regular season road contest. The Raiders are now 24-6 on the season while the Huskies slide to 15-12.

Rivier won the match by set scores of 22-25, 25-15, 25-18 and 25-23.

Graduate Courtney Collins (Litchfield, N.H.) powered the offense with a 13-kill performance while also contributing defensively with three total blocks. Junior Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.) finished right behind Collins with 10 kills and freshman Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) chipped in with nine kills on the night. Senior setter Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) dished out 45 assists, collected 8 digs and swung at a .455 clip on five kills. Freshman Leah Giampietro (Coventry, R.I.) controlled the back line with a team-high of 14 digs and classmate Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.) scooped up 13 digs and added eight kills in the win. Julia Zargaj (Groveland, Mass.) matched both Collins and Dunster with three total blocks for the Raiders.

Southern Maine was guided by Megan Gettings who hammered down 11 kills and Kacey Foerster added nine kills. Nicole Schmitz handed out 22 helpers while Lauren Delissio picked up 15 digs in the loss.

The Raiders will close out the 2018 regular season on Saturday morning as they host Simmons University for Senior Day at the Muldoon. Game time starts at 11am.
