Women's Volleyball: Collins, Raiders sweep past Regis College

(Weston, Mass.) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team earned their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory of the season this evening as they swept Regis College by scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-6 at Higgins Court. The win lifts the Raiders above .500 on the year at 5-4 (1-0 GNAC) while the Pride stumble to 3-4 overall, 0-1 in conference play.

Senior setter Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) guided the Rivier offense with 25 assists to go along with her three kills, .750 hitting percentage and six digs. A quartet of Raiders each netted the team high of six-kills – juniors Taylor Dunster (Sutton, Mass.), Jess Whyte (Plymouth, Mass.), graduate Courtney Collins (Derry, N.H.) and freshman Sydney Racevicius (Woodbury, Conn.). Racevicius helped along the back line with 10 digs and Dunster scooped up nine digs while Whyte recorded two total blocks. Collins also totaled two blocks and recorded a .566 hitting percentage in the win.

Katryna Veasey (Quincy, Mass.) led the Pride offense with five kills, while Lauren Butt (Topsfield, Mass.) finished with three kills and three total blocks and libero Caroline Fuentes (Downey, Calif.) paced the defense with eight digs.

Rivier brings its four-match winning streak into a home tri-match on Saturday, welcoming Roger Williams University and Westfield State University starting at 11 a.m. Regis, meanwhile, continues its stretch of home contests with a tri-match Saturday, Sept. 15, starting at 11 a.m. against Dean followed by a match against Curry at 3 p.m.
